Registration is underway for the 2006-2007 Religious Education Program. We hope the early registration will help you plan the children’s activities for the fall and allow us time to prepare for an excellent and exciting program. Please take the time now to complete the applications and return them to either the CCD teacher or to the parish office by the end of the CCD school year, May 22nd.

The application has changed to make it easier for you to complete, to streamline the administrative process, and to provide more information for our catechists, so they can use the best teaching methods for your child. First is the Family Application, which provides general family information. The goal is that you only have to provide this information once versus completing it separately for each child. The second form is the Child Application. One form should be completed for each child being enrolled in the Religious Education Program. This year we are striving to make sure our records are complete. Please provide a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate, even if they were baptized here at Holy Name. This will be required before the children may begin taking classes in August. For those receiving sacraments this year, the baptismal certificate would be required any way.

Our Mission Statement

We believe that all aspects life is filled with learning and that, we as humans are physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual beings. It is, however, our spirit that will last forever. “Endowed with a spiritual soul, with intellect and with free will, the human person is from his very conception ordered to God and destined for eternal beatitude” (CCC, 1711).

To develop and deepen our spiritual life is the mission of all Religious Education at Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Parish.

We endeavor to reach this goal by:

  • Promoting the concept that faith formation at every age is a life long journey toward God.

  • Building upon the religious faith celebrated and instilled in Baptism and nurtured by families.

  • Supporting parents as the primary catechists to their children, and partnering with parents in instilling Catholic attitudes, values and practices in their children.

  • Providing the religious formation that is consistent with the basic traditions and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as reflected in the direction set by the Second Vatican Council and its applications to contemporary living.

  • Providing the opportunity to experience the rich sacramental life of the Church, which can nourish and sustain life.

  • Creating a sense of community identity that can be an ever-deepening experience of Church for children and adults.

  • Involving people in the mission of the Church on all levels of development.

"Quite early on, the word catechesis, was given to the totality of the Church's effort to make disciples, to help people believe that Jesus is the Son of God so that believing they might have life in his name, and to educate and instruct them in his life, thus building up the body of Christ”
(CCC, 4).

The word Catechesis means to echo. In teaching both children and adults, we echo Christ’s teachings and his life. “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age" (Matthew 28:19,20.)

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to work with families to educate children in the Catholic faith and to encourage the children to have a living faith marked by active participation in the life of the Church. Since the family is the first place where faith is learned, lived, and interpreted, we feel that it is out role to assist parents in their role as catechists through liturgical celebrations and programs of systematic catechesis. Together with the family, we form a partnership in the responsibility of forming children in the four pillars of the Catholic faith: The Creed, Holy Sacraments, Christian life and prayer.
