Daily Reflection- Friday, April 17th, 2020

Fair to say that inevitable transitions in life can leave us with feelings of grief and sadness for what will be lost. We can only imagine the intense sadness Peter and the disciples must have felt in the wake of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

In today’s Gospel Reading (Jn 21:1-14), Peter and the disciples decide to go fishing, hearkening back to their livelihood before they first encountered Jesus. This may have provided some kind of solace to go back to the familiar in such confusing times. But the Risen Christ meets them where they are, and though it takes some signs for them to recognize that it is, indeed, Jesus, he gently encourages them to cast their nets on the right side of the boat and the catch was incredible.
